[It's warm enough in the Gardens - early fall still, and the sun is out, though some of the leaves have begun to change color. Nonetheless, Thamuris has a heavy, light-colored shawl wrapped around his thin shoulders against even the slightest chill. He's perched at the foot of a tree, in a little bit of shade. He's not quite paying attention to the world around him - whether it's because he's lost in thought or if it's the laudanum isn't clear]

[It takes a half a morning of wandering the Gardens before Felix can locate the wayward diviner]

There you are. Xanthippe did say you'd be out here, though I wish she'd have been more specific about where.

[He doesn't sound terribly cross about that fact. It wasn't exactly a chore to explore this place, though he was more interested in conversation than flowers at this particular at the moment]

[it takes a few seconds, but he seems to come back to himself, and gives Felix a friendly, if slightly tired smile]

She probably didn't know. I was walking, a little bit.

[He makes an amused sound and takes a seat on the lawn near Thamuris, dropping a collection of books and scrolls next to his hip]

Over half the compound, it would seem. She also exhorted me to make sure you were not late for lunch, though I made her no promises in that respect.

[He flushes a little, looking down at his hands instead of at Felix]

I didn't mean to be a trouble, it's just- The weather was nice enough, for once.

[He frowned at the younger man, then replied dryly as he started to paw through the papers]

You don't have to answer to them...and most certainly not to me. I don't belong to this Covenent, as much Xanthippe would wish it otherwise.

Yes, but... I'm under their care. [And at this point he doesn't even have the energy to be bitter about it]

Besides, I don't think anyone likes making Xanthippe angry. [And there's a trace of humor slipping back in there, because yes, that was a lesson learned the hard way]

True enough. There are plenty of better targets for that. [And he followed that with a soft smile]

[He raises an eyebrow, amused]

Like Diokletian?

[lord_wizard]

Diokletian's too easy. [Which was true, but also because he wasn't keen on being in the same room as the man if he could help it.]

[lioneyed]

[That gets a soft chuckle, though he reins it in abruptly as he feels the edge of a cough creep up - because if there's one thing he really deson't want Felix to see, it's that]

[Felix waits a few tense moments, then continues as if it hadn't happened, preferring to ignore the presence of Thamuris' illness if at all possible.]

I managed to abscond with a few texts from the archives. The weather seemed to nice to work these translations inside that dreary little room.

[And he's deeply, deeply grateful for that. A few careful breaths, and then he relaxes a little, fairly certain he'll be alright for the moment]

It is - though you're not going to get anything done sitting here talking to me.

[He smiles, as if to say this doesn't exactly bother him.] Maybe not.

[Though there was the chance Thamuris might simply fall asleep, but again, he doesn't mention that]

Mmm. What are you working on today?

Just more translations for your archives. It keeps me busy.

[lioneyed]

But not much engaged, I'm guessing?

Not terribly.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind. There's something interesting in here every once in awhile, but there is always the fact that this is the closest I can get to earning my keep.

I don't think you need to worry about earning your keep - I suspect the scholars are clinging to every word you say about your school of magic and your city.

[lord_wizard]

I can't argue with that, though I get the feeling it's not me they should be listening to.

[And yes that is a pointed but silent look in Thamuris' direction]

[And Thamuris just looks vaguely perplexed about that look]

...Me? Why?

Because you outrank them? Because you're the only person that listened when my brother needed help? Because you have more intellectual curiosity than half of this Covenant put together?

[lioneyed]

[He flushes a bit at the compliment, though he glances back down at his hands]

Xanthippe has reason not to listen to me - my own covenant sent me here, after all.
