Rice cooker

[There is a new rice cooker in the apartment. The previous (ancient) one had met it's demise in a fizzle of sparks from the cord and much swearing, and had summarily been replaced. The new one is very white, very shiny, and has roughly three times the buttons on it that the old one had.

Hijikata has decided, in honor of this, he will actually cook dinner at home. Dinner that isn't half from a box.

Unfortunately, the rice cooker is proving to be A Problem]

Hijikata does relax just a little, though. He doesn't cook much for himself, so this was something a little special. And knowing that Souji liked it is a good thing.]

[He concentrates on his dinner for a few moments before letting an amused smile cross his face]

By the way, would you like me to write down the instructions for the rice cooker?

[Because, hey. He can't just let that go.]

[Hijikata looks like he wants to throw something at Souji for that. Luckily for Souji, no pillows are in easy in easy reach. So he satisfies himself with a very, very grumpy glare instead.]

No, goddamnit. It has a manual.

[Though he can't really keep up the facade of being angry about it. Or even more than just a little annoyed. Mostly that Souji keeps being right about things.]

I already told you, I can cook for myself.

[Not that he doesn't appreciate it, of course.]

And I already said that instant noodles don't count as 'cooking'.

They are faster, though.

And have basically no nutritional value. You'd look less like a stick if you ate more.

[The last bit is punctuated with a pointed jab with his chopsticks in Souji's direction]

There's nothing wrong with how I look.

[Cue SOMEWHAT AWKWARD PAUSE where Hijikata is very grateful he is far too manly to blush because yes, he doesn't think there's anything wrong with how you look either, Souji.

He recovers a moment later, though]

I'm pretty sure half the office still thinks you're a girl, you know.

[Well, hello there, awkward pause. How are you? Souji's just going to... ignore you, don't mind him.]
